The 2023 IPL season starts on March 25, and the three-match series between New Zealand and Sri Lanka ends on March 31. With regulars like Kane Williamson expected to participate in the Indian Premier League (IPL), New Zealand Cricket announced on Monday that Tom Latham will captain New Zealand's one-day international team in the three-match series against Sri Lanka later this month.
After the current test series against Sri Lanka, Williamson (Gujarat Titans), Tim Southee (Kolkata Knight Riders), Devon Conway, and Mitchell Santner (both Chennai Super Kings) will all be freed early. After the first ODI, Glenn Phillips (Sunrisers Hyderabad), Lockie Ferguson (Kolkata Knight Riders), and Finn Allen (Royal Challengers Bangalore) will depart from the team.
The three-game series starts on March 25 and concludes on March 31, which is also the first day of the 2023 IPL season. The team has added Chad Bowes and Ben Lister, two unknown players, along with the return of Tom Blundell and Will Young. Prior to the second ODI, Lister, Mark Chapman, and Henry Nicholls will join the team.
"Chad has been impressive for a number of seasons at the top of the order for Canterbury as well as being an excellent fielder," coach Gary Stead said in a statement. Between now and the beginning of May, we're scheduled to play 16 white ball games, so there will be plenty of opportunities for participants to put their skills to the test in both familiar and foreign environments.
"We have been extremely impressed by Tom Blundell in international cricket over the past 18 months as a leader in the test team and then domestically with the Wellington Firebirds," the author said.
