National Selectors Awaiting NCA Fitness Report to Fly Mohammed Shami to Australia for BGT Trophy
The BCCI is currently awaiting the final fitness report of Mohammed Shami for picking up the Indian pacer for rest of Border-Gavaskar Trophy series.
Mohammed Shami To Join Team India for BGT Trophy: The second match of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) being played between Australia and India is being played at the Adelaide Oval. Meanwhile, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has suddenly taken a shocking decision. The board is ready to send veteran fast bowler Mohammed Shami to Australia. Where he will play the remaining three matches of the Test series.
According to a report in the newspaper Indian Express, the BCCI is waiting for the NOD from the National Cricket Academy (NCA). Once Mohammed Shami gets the NOD from the NCA, he will be sent to Australia.
Will Shami, who returned to the field after a year of recovering from an injury, be able to handle the rigors of five-day cricket? This is the question that is on the mind of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) officials and the national selectors. Shami has played one Ranji Trophy match and seven Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy matches for Bengal. Although his performance in red-ball cricket has encouraged the Agarkars, Shami has not been able to maintain consistency in T20 matches.
Even though he played for Bengal, BCCI's head of sports science Nitin Patel, NCA trainer Nishant Bordoloi and one of the national selectors, Shivsunder Das, were in Rajkot to take care of Shami. Shami had gained some weight due to being out of the game for a long time. He was instructed to lose weight and improve his fitness. They checked Shami's fitness in the eight matches he played for Bengal.
A BCCI official said, "Shami has gone to Bengaluru for a fitness test. We are waiting for the NCA report. He has played a few domestic matches. Shami seems to be doing well. His clothes are all ready. We are waiting for the NCA fitness certificate."
Whether Shami will get a flight ticket to Australia or not now depends on the NCA's fitness report. According to BCCI sources, the Agarkars will receive Shami's fitness report in a day or two. If the NCA experts give the clearance, Shami will be sent to Australia soon. In that case, Shami will join the Indian team before the third Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. The board officials have also made all the preparations to send Shami to Australia. Shami's kit is ready for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. His visa has also been arranged.
However, if the NCA does not grant him clearance, the Bengal fast bowler may not play the Test against Australia this time. The third India-Australia Test will begin in Brisbane from December 15.
