Tim Paine as Head Coach of Adelaide Strikers: Tim Paine, the former captain of the Australian cricket team, has been appointed as the head coach of the Adelaide Strikers, a team in the Big Bash League (BBL).

Jason Gillespie was the head coach of the Adelaide Strikers last season. Gillespie takes charge of the Pakistan Test team. To fill the vacancy, club management appointed assistant Tim Payne to the role of head coach.

The former Australia captain was Adam Voges' assistant for Australia A and has also worked with the under-19 set-up and has seen rapid growth in his coaching career.

Sitting on the coach's seat, a thrilled Paine can't stand it. The 39-year-old said, "I am honoured and excited by the opportunity to coach such a well-established and strongly supported club, and I can't wait for the start of BBL|14 in December," Paine said in a statement. "After spending time in Adelaide last year, I believe the Strikers team and the whole of South Australian cricket has huge potential, and I'm looking forward to being part of taking it forward and winning a few trophies"

Paine's first big task for the Strikers will be to watch the upcoming BBL draft with captain Matt Short. The BBL draft will take place on September 1. According to ESPNcricinfo, the franchise is yet to confirm the pre-draft signings. Current Adelaide Strikers BBL squad: James Beazley, Jordan Buckingham, Cameron Boyce, Brendan Doggett, Chris Lynn, Lloyd Pope, Alex Ross, D'Arcy Short, Matt Short, Henry Thornton, Jake Weatherald.

As a player, Payne made his debut for Tasmania in the domestic league in 2005. After making his debut in the national team in 2009, he played 35 Tests and the same number of ODIs for Australia. Paine lost the Australian captaincy in 2021 due to the women scandal. This wicketkeeper was excluded from the Ashes that year.

Paine retired from all forms of cricket in March last year. On this day, he was given a 'guard of honour' in the domestic league.
