Team India Squad for 1st Test against Bangladesh: The 2-match Test series between India and Bangladesh is going to start from September 19. Meanwhile, BCCI has announced the Indian squad for the first Test to be played in Chennai on Sunday (September 8).
This is the Indian team's first red-ball (Test) series after March 2024. In the last series, England was defeated 4-1. On the other hand, this series will also be the first red-ball series for the new Indian head coach Gautam Gambhir.
Rishabh Pant's Return to the Test Team
Indian team's experienced wicketkeeper batsman Rishabh Pant has been included in the first test. Pant will be seen playing Test for Team India for the first time after the car accident. Rishabh Pant returned to cricket after 15 months of car accident.
Rishabh Pant played IPL earlier in March. Then he was also a part of Team India's T20 World Cup winning squad. After this, this 26 year old wicketkeeper also participated in the ODI series against Sri Lanka last month.
Yash Dayal Gets Call-up
Indian team's young left arm pacer Yash Dayal got a maiden call from the Indian Test team. He will also be a part of Team India against Bangladesh. 26-year-old Yash Dayal has played 24 first-class matches, in which he has taken 76 wickets. Yash also has IPL experience. He has taken 28 wickets in 28 matches played in the Indian Premier League. Dayal currently plays for Royal Challengers Bangalore in the IPL.
Virat Kohli will be seen in white jersey after a long time. He had withdrawn his name from the 5-match home Test series against England held earlier this year. Safraz Khan and wicketkeeper Dhruv Jurel have been retained in the squad. Both of them made their debut in the England series. Rajat Patidar, KS Bharat, Devdutt Padikkal, Washington Sundar and Mukesh Kumar who played in that series have been dropped.
There is no change in Team India's spin department. The quartet of R Ashwin, Ravindra Jadeja, Kuldeep Yadav and Axar Patel is again ready to wreak havoc on the batsmen. Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj will lead the fast bowling attack.
The squad announcement also raised eyebrows with the absence of key players like Shreyas Iyer and Mohammed Shami.
