Pakistan’s Mohammad Yousuf faces backlash after insulting Suryakumar Yadav on live TV during Asia Cup 2025, fueling India-Pakistan cricket tensions.

Mohammad Yousuf Abuses Suryakumar Yadav On TV

After the Asia Cup 2025 match between India and Pakistan, cricket and off-field matters both came under discussion. Following the defeat, Pakistani cricket analyst and former player Mohammad Yousuf made remarks on a TV program that created a negative discussion in the news. During a post-match panel discussion on SAMAA TV, he repeatedly mispronounced Indian captain Suryakumar Yadav's name as "Suarkumar Yadav." The word "Suar" is a derogatory slur in Hindi, and many people hear it as a direct personal attack.

The discussion was already tense, as the panel debated the Indian team’s decision not to shake hands with the Pakistani players. Despite repeated attempts by the anchor to correct him, Yousuf ignored the corrections and kept repeating the same word. This escalated the situation, as people no longer saw it as a pronunciation error but as a deliberate insult. Yousuf also accused the Indian team of pressuring the umpires and intimidating match referee Andy Pycroft to secure victory.

Social Media Reaction and Escalating Tensions

The statement drew instant criticism on social media. Indian fans sharply criticised Yousuf and demanded an apology. Facing heavy criticism, Yousuf issued a statement on X, but he did not offer a direct apology. He wrote that he did not intend to insult any player and expressed respect for all players who play for their country with passion and integrity. He tried to divert the attention by questioning why the Indian media praised Irfan Pathan's comments about Shahid Afridi. He attempted to link the matter to another issue, but avoided a clear apology.

The tension did not end there. Many saw the Indian team’s refusal to shake hands with Pakistani players as a reflection of the anger after the Pahalgam terror attack. Meanwhile, the Pakistan Cricket Board also filed a complaint against match referee Andy Pycroft, but the ICC dismissed it. In such a tense situation, Yousuf’s statement made the situation worse. This controversy was no longer limited to a single foul word but added to the long-standing tensions in India-Pakistan cricket.
