IPL Player Registration Officially Closed with an Impressive Total of 1,574 Players for TATA IPL 2025 Player Auction

IPL 2025 Mega Auction: The dates for the mega auction of players for the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 have been announced. The auction will be held in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia on 24 and 25 November 2024. This is only the second time in the history of IPL that the auction will be held outside India. Earlier last year's auction was held in Dubai.
This is the first time that the IPL players auction will be held in a city in Saudi Arabia. Saudi Arabia has shown interest in cricket, especially IPL, in the last few years. Two seasons ago, BCCI had also discussed this with Saudi Arabian officials. Not only this, Saudi Arabia's largest oil company Aramco has also emerged as the biggest sponsor of IPL for the last 3 seasons. In such a situation, organizing the auction in Saudi this time is being seen as an important step in the expansion of the league and cricket in this country.
1574 players register for TATA IPL 2025 Player Auction
BCCI released the details of the auction, in which it has been told that a total of 1574 players have registered their names for the mega auction this time. Monday 4 November was the last date for registration of players and BCCI has received tremendous response in this. A total of 1165 Indian players and 409 foreign players will be a part of the auction.
Out of these 1574 players, 320 are capped players (who have played international cricket), while 1224 are uncapped players. 30 players are from teams of associate countries. Among the foreign players, the highest number of 91 are from South Africa, while for the first time a player from Italy has also registered.
BCCI had changed the Retention Rules
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) recently issued new rules regarding retention. According to this, a franchise can retain a maximum of 6 players. If a team has retained less than 6 players, then in that case the franchise will get a chance to use the Right to Match (RTM) card during the auction.
Each franchise able to fill a maximum squad of 25 players, 204 slots will be up for grabs at the TATA IPL 2025 Player Auction.
