The ICC have announced the prize money for the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup set to take place next month in the UAE.
Prize Money for ICC Women's T20 World Cup: ICC has announced the prize money for the Women's T20 World Cup 2024. The ICC Women's T20 World Cup 2024 is scheduled to begin from October 3 in UAE.
Earlier this tournament was going to be hosted by Bangladesh, but due to the protests that have taken place since the political instability there, keeping security in mind, it has been decided to host this tournament in UAE. ICC matches will now be played on the grounds of Sharjah and Dubai.
ICC has increased the prize money for the 2024 T20 World Cup edition as compared to the previous World Cup. The ICC has increased the prize money for the 2024 Women's T20 World Cup to $7,958,080, which is more than double that of the 2023 edition.
This significant increase ensures that the winner of the Women's T20 World Cup 2024 will receive a whopping $2.34 million, which is 134% more than the $1 million paid to champions Australia in 2023.
The runners-up will also benefit from a 134% rise, securing $1.17 million in the upcoming edition. The semi-finalists will receive $675,000 each, more than three times their 2023 payout.
The prize money extends beyond the knockout stages, as each group stage win will now be rewarded with $31,154, reflecting a 78% increase from last year’s $17,500.
Furthermore, teams that exit during the group stage won’t leave empty-handed. There is a base prize of $112,500 awarded to all 10 participating teams, totalling $1.125 million. This ensures that every team receives substantial support for their participation, no matter where they finish.
Teams finishing fifth to eighth will earn $270,000 each, and teams finishing ninth and 10th earn $135,000 each. These changes underscore the ICC’s commitment to growing and recognising women’s cricket, ensuring that all teams and players are well-supported.
This time 10 teams are participating in the Women's T20 World Cup 2024, which have been divided into two groups of 5 each. In Group A, there are women's teams of India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Australia and New Zealand. Whereas Group-B includes women's teams of Bangladesh, South Africa, England, Scotland and West Indies.
The last match of the group stage will be played on October 15, while the top-2 teams from both the groups will directly secure their place for the semi-finals. The semi-final matches will be played on Sharjah ground on October 17 and 18, while the final match of the tournament will be played on October 20.
