Sunil Gavaskar Wants Bumrah to Lead Team India in Australia: Indian cricket legend Sunil Gavaskar cannot accept the 0-3 loss in the Test series against New Zealand. Rohit Sharma is uncertain about the first Test against Australia. According to Gavaskar, if Rohit does not play in the first Test, Jasprit Bumrah should lead India in the entire series.
India's first Test against Australia is on November 22. Rohit may not play that match. It is known that he has taken leave from that test due to personal reasons. In the absence of Rohit, Bumrah is likely to captain the team in Perth.
"It is important for the captain to play the first Test match. It's different if he is injured, but if he is not available, then the deputy leader will be under a lot of pressure," Gavaskar said on Sports Tak.
"I have been reading that Rohit Sharma might not play the first two Tests of the Australia series. I feel that, in that case the selection committee should appoint Jasprit Bumrah the captain of the side for the entire Australia tour, and tell Rohit Sharma that you will participate as a player in this series. For the first Test match, Rohit Sharma has to be there", Gavaskar said.
First match of India-Australia Test series in Perth. Rohit may not play in the Test which starts from November 22. After the 0-3 loss at home against New Zealand, every match of the tour of Australia is now important for India. Because the battle to reach the final of the Test World Championship has become difficult for Rohit.
Rohit was asked whether he will play the first Test on the tour of Australia. The North India captain said, "I am still not sure whether I will play in the Perth Test or not. Let's see what happens."
Sunil Gavaskar believes that the Indian team should focus on winning the Border-Gavaskar Trophy series instead of the ICC World Test Championship final. "No, I don't. I actually dont. India cannot beat Australia 4-0 in the Test series. I'd be very, very I'd be over the moon. If they do that, I would be over the moon if they do that. But 4-0".
"India can win 3-1, 4-0 is... don't talk about the World Test Championship final. Now just focus on trying to win the series in Australia. Never mind whether you win 1-0, 2-0, 3-0, 3-1, 2-1. But go and win. Because that is how all of us Indian cricket fans are going to be back to feeling good again," Gavaskar also said.
Sunil Gavaskar also gave the example of the 2021-22 tour, when Virat Kohli returned to India after playing the first Test match for the birth of his first child. At that time everyone knew that Virat would return home after playing the first Test. On this, Gavaskar said, "There was a clarity at that time. We knew that Kohli would play only one Test match and after that the vice-captain would take over the responsibility, which made it easier for the rest of the players to accept this fact." However, this is not the case.
