ICC has taken a big action against the Bangladeshi cricket team, which is no less than a big shock for the Bangladesh fans. Bangladesh's off-spinner Shoheli Akhtar has been accused of corruption. Due to which she has also been banned. She has become the first female cricketer to be banned.

Let us tell you that Shohely Akhtar was accused of fixing during the 2023 Women's T20 World Cup. 36-year-old Akhtar was not part of Bangladesh's playing team for that World Cup, she last played in October 2022.

ICC's Anti-Corruption Code (ACU ) investigation focused on Shoheli's conversation on Facebook Messenger with the cricketer on February 14, 2023. It was the day of the T20 World Cup match between Bangladesh and Australia. Shoheli Akhter offered the player 2 million Bangladeshi taka (approximately US$16,400) to get out hit wicket during the match.

Not only this, the player contacted by Akhtar immediately reported the matter to the ACU and provided all the voice notes of Shoheli, who deleted those files from his device.

Considering the length of the ban, a spokesperson from the International Cricket Council (ICC) stated, “including giving Ms Akther credit for agreeing an outcome that avoids the need for a hearing and so saves considerable time and money for use elsewhere in the fight against corruption, and has considered relevant precedents. The ICC therefore considers that a period of ineligibility of five (5) years is reasonable and proportionate. Ms Akhter has agreed to this sanction. As such, a period of ineligibility of five (5) years is imposed.”

Bangladesh off-spinner Shohaly Akhter has taken 11 wickets in two ODIs and 13 T20Is, including four wickets. She last played for Bangladesh in the Women's Asia Cup 2022 against Sri Lanka at the Sylhet International Stadium on 10 October.
