Steve Smith of Australia has divulged that he plans to return to the Indian Premier League. (IPL). Since 2021, he has been a member of the IPL team Delhi Capitals. He did not, however, sell in the 2022 IPL player sale. Smith revealed on Monday, March 27, that he will play in the 16th edition of the IPL, which begins on March 31.

He made the news via his official Twitter account. He said in a video posted to his Twitter account that he is joining a 'exceptional' squad in India. Smith has previously served six IPL franchises. The 33-year-old began his career with the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in 2010. He later played for the now-defunct Rising Pune Supergiants, Pune Warriors India, and Kochi Tuskers Kerala (was unable to participate). He also played for the Rajasthan Royals and the Delhi Capitals. He made 152 runs in eight Delhi Capitals matches during the 2021 IPL.

He has scored 2485 runs in 103 IPL games at a strike rate of 128.09, including 11 half-centuries and one century. He joined the 2022 IPL player auction with a base price of INR 2 crore but did not sell. The former Australia captain recently led Australia to a 2-1 victory over India in a three-match One-Day International series in India. Due to the absence of regular captain Pat Cummins, he was appointed interim captain for the touring party.
