Key Stats
13.4 Sandeep Lamichhane to Lloyd Pope
OUT! Caught. Sandeep Lamichhane to Lloyd Pope. Leg spinner length ball, off stump on the front foot pushing, mis-timed in the air uncontrolled to short extra cover, by Stoinis. Melbourne Stars have demolished Sydney Sixers by 94 runs at the MCG to secure fourth spot and a semi-final place. This was a must-win game for the Stars and they will have been worried when the runs were hard to come by in the first innings. Glenn Maxwell changed the momentum in the final four overs, blasting the ball to all parts of the ground to launch the hosts to a decent total. That energy continued when they came out to field as wickets tumbled in quick succession. The Sixers only needed to make 108 to ensure their semi-final against the Renegades took place at the MCG, but in the end they were toppled for their lowest ever BBL score. The two legspinners were fantastic, there was sharp catching and aggressive captaincy so the Stars will be riding high when they travel to Hobart on Thursday. The Sixers will be feeling pretty hollow after that, they will have to lift themselves for their semi-final on Friday at Marvel Stadium.
