BCCI announced the Squad for India's tour of South Africa; KL Rahul will lead in ODIs, Rohit will lead in Tests, and Suryakumar will lead in T20s.

No Rohit, No Virat in South Africa ODI and T20

BCCI announced the Squad for India's tour of South Africa; KL Rahul will lead in ODIs, Rohit will lead in Tests, and Suryakumar will lead in T20s.

In the forthcoming tour of South Africa, Team India will be captained by Rohit Sharma in the Test series, while KL Rahul will assume leadership for the ODI portion of the trip and Suryakumar Yadav will captain the T20I team.

For the South Africa series, the selectors were eager to give Rohit command of the T20I team as well. However, Rohit, who was participating in the discussion via video conference from England, expressed his desire to take a vacation from the condensed forms. Rohit was supposed to captain the side in the Twenty20 Internationals, according to a previous version of this article.

Given that he guided the team to the home final of the just concluded World Cup, Rohit's decision makes sense. The Indian Test team will be led by him.

As a result of Hardik Pandya's injury, the selection committee, led by Ajit Agarkar, chose Rohit to lead the Indian T20 team in the difficult series against Africa.

As previously reported by this daily, Virat Kohli has communicated his desire for a break to the BCCI. During the visit of South Africa, India will play two Test matches, three ODIs, and three T20 internationals.

Kohli has communicated to the selectors and BCCI that he needs a break from white-ball cricket and that he will let them know when he is available to play in the future. He can be chosen for the two Test matches in South Africa because he has currently notified the BCCI that he will be playing red-ball cricket, according to a source.

Why Rohit and Virat's absence?

BCCI added note: "Rohit Sharma and Mr Virat Kohli had requested the Board for a break from the white-ball leg of the tour. Mohd. Shami is currently undergoing medical treatment and his availability is subject to fitness. Abhimanyu Easwaran's availability is subject to fitness."

The ODI team has selected Sanju Samson. After recovering from an injury, Rajat Patidar is included in the Indian ODI team.

The Indian Test lineup also included Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Shami, Mohammed Siraj, Shardul Thakur, Ravindra Jadeja, and R Ashwin.

Kuldeep Yadav has been included to India's T20I squad.

Shreyas Iyer is recalled to the Test squad. Meanwhile, Ajinkya Rahane and Cheteshwar Pujara were left out. The Indian selection committee chose Iyer over Ajinkya Rahane in Tests because Rahane had returned to the Indian team after Iyer was injured. As Iyer's fitness has improved, the selection committee and Indian captain Rohit Sharma believe he should return to the Indian team.
