Before the Asia Cup 2025, a big question has arisen regarding the Indian Cricket Team and their sponsors. Rajya Sabha has passed the Promotion and Regulation of Online Gaming Bill, and now only the President of India's approval is pending.
As soon as this bill becomes law, all fantasy gaming companies like Dream11 and My11Circle will neither be able to advertise nor show their logo on the cricket team's jersey. This means that the Indian Cricket Team, which takes the field with the Dream11 logo, will no longer be able to do so.
Dream11 replaced Byju's in 2023 and signed a deal of Rs 358 crore with the BCCI. At the same time, My11Circle got a deal of Rs 625 crore in IPL. Now, if this bill becomes law, then BCCI may have to lose these big contracts. The Asia Cup is going to be held in the UAE from September 9, and in such a situation, the Indian Men's and Women's Teams may take the field wearing jerseys without front logos. In ICC events, logos are allowed only on the sleeves, so the impact can be more profound.
The BCCI has said that it is discussing with the legal team and is also in touch with the government. However, as the situation stands, no logo associated with fantasy apps will be seen on the team jersey. Dream11 has also indicated that the app might be shut down. This will have a direct impact on the earnings of IPL franchises and players, as many teams and cricketers were earning a lot of money by joining these apps.
According to me, this whole matter will start a new era for Indian cricket. Sponsorships will change, but there will be no impact on the game. Yes, the earnings of players and franchises will be affected, but there will always be new sponsors for cricket. As far as the Asia Cup is concerned, the competition between India and Pakistan has always been exciting, and this time the circumstances will make it even more interesting.
