ICC Player of the Month, July 2025: Shubman Gill performed brilliantly with the bat as soon as he became the Test captain of Team India. Gill scored a mountain of runs in the recently played five-match series against England. He succeeded in making many records in his name. Now he can also get a big award from ICC, but for this we will have to wait a bit and Gill will compete with two more strong players. It remains to be seen who will win.
The ICC has announced the nominations for the Player of the Month for the month of July. Apart from Indian captain Shubman Gill, England captain Ben Stokes' name is also included in it. The third name in the list is of Vian Mulder, who created a sensation by scoring a triple century last month. The month of July was very good for Gill. He scored 567 runs in three Test matches and his average was 94.50. Keep in mind that the series between India and England started in June and lasted till August, but what Gill has done in July is amazing.
Shubman Gill (India)
The Edgbaston Test was the most special for Shubman Gill in the month of July. Where he scored 269 runs in the first innings of the match and then 161 runs in the second innings of the same match. That is, Gill scored 430 runs in both innings combined. Only Graham Gooch scored more runs than this in both innings of a Test, when he succeeded in scoring 456 runs. After this, Gill again played a century innings of 103 runs at Old Trafford.
Gill's consistency at No.4, carrying on the baton from all-time great Virat Kohli, provided stability and flair in equal measure, and combined with his extraordinary captaincy in his debut series.
Ben Stokes (England)
England captain Ben Stokes showcased his trademark grit and all-round brilliance throughout the three Tests in July of the England-India series. He performed brilliantly during the series against India. Apart from being the captain, he also played an important role in his team's victory with the ball and bat. In the month of July, Ben Stokes scored 251 runs against India, here his average was 50.20, while he also took 12 wickets at an average of 26.33. The special thing about him was that Stokes was also given the Player of the Match award in two consecutive matches.
His leadership proved crucial in maintaining England’s intensity and belief in a closely contested series.
Wiaan Mulder (South Africa)
The other contender for this award is Wiaan Mulder, who played a wonderful game in the two-match Test series played against Zimbabwe. Wiaan Mulder scored 367 runs in the second match of the series, then it seemed that Mulder would break Brian Lara's record of 400 runs, but Mulder, being the captain, declared his innings himself and did not look towards Lara's record. Even after this, he has played the biggest innings as the captain of South Africa. Mulder scored 531 runs in the series and his average has been 265.50.
