West Indies Announce Squad for South Africa T20I Series, Few Big Name is Missing in the List
West Indies announced the 15-man squad for the three-match T20I series against South Africa. Powell at the helm. Two senior cricketers Russell and Holder are not in the team.
West Indies Squad for South Africa T20I Series: After the Test series, South Africa and West Indies will play a three-match T20 series. The first match is on August 24. West Indies Cricket has announced the team for this series. Rovman Powell will lead the Caribbean. Roston Chase has been made the vice-captain.
Was in the T20 World Cup team. However, Andre Russell is not in the West Indies team for the T20 series against South Africa. No place for Jason Holder. West Indies will have to play without two experienced cricketers.
Alick Athanaze and Matthew Forde have been included in the squad as replacements for two senior cricketers. All three matches of the series will be played at the Brian Lara Academy in Trinidad. The second and third T20 matches will be played on August 26 and 28.
In the red-ball leg of South Africa's tour of the Caribbean, the home team suffered a 1-0 defeat in the two-Test series that was part of the ICC World Test Championship cycle. The Windies now seek to maintain their impressive form in the T20I format, having emerged victorious in four out of their last five bilateral T20I series.
West Indies have won four of their last five bilateral T20I series, and missed out on a place in the semi-final of the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2024 at home after losing to South Africa.
"Facing a strong South Africa side is an excellent opportunity for our team to reset and refocus with our game plan," Miles Bascombe, Director of Cricket at CWI, said.
"We have played them recently and had mixed results, so this should be an exciting and important series. I’m confident in the squad we’ve selected, and with eyes already on the next T20 World Cup in 2026, I know the guys will be keen to show their hunger for success."
