Sri Lanka in Women's Asia Cup 2024 Final: After an one sided match happens in the 1st Semi-Final of Women's Asia Cup 2024 between India and Bangladesh. The 2nd Semi-Final match was totally opposite. It was completely a thrilling match where Sri Lanka Women's somehow managed to Pakistan in last over by 3 wickets.
Sri Lankan captain Chamari Athapaththu won the toss and chose to bowl first against Pakistan in the semi-finals. Openers Gul Firoza and Muniba Ali gave a solid start to the team and played a half-century partnership. Firozha was out after scoring 25 runs while Muniba scored 37 runs.
Both these batters were batted by Udeshika Prabodhani. Pakistan captain Nida Dar was out after playing an inning of 23 runs and apart from this no other batsman could play a big inning. Pakistan scored 140 runs for 4 wickets.
Sri Lanka, while chasing the target, got a big blow in the form of Vishmi Gunaratne in the very first over. Sadia Iqbal handed him the return ticket without opening the account on the very third ball. After this, when the team score was 19 runs, Harshita Samarawickrama was dismissed by Omaima Sohail.
Sri Lankan captain Chamari stood at one end and completed her fifty. She was out after scoring 63 runs on 48 balls and the match started changing. At one time it seemed that Pakistan would win the match but Anushka Sanjeevani led the team to victory in the match with her intelligent innings.
"Heart-broken totally. The young players were positive, need to appreciate them. We were 10-15 runs short I think. 140 could have been defended, it went to the last ball. Youngsters played really well, that needs to be appreciated." - Pakistan Captain Nida Dar said after match.
Earlier, India entered the final for the ninth time by defeating Bangladesh by 10 wickets in the first semi-final on Friday. After restricting Bangladesh to 80 runs for eight wickets, India registered a one-sided victory by scoring 83 runs without any loss in 11 overs. For India, Smriti Mandhana contributed 55 not out and Shefali Verma contributed 26 not out.
Women's Asia Cup T20 2024 Final between India and Sri Lanka will be played on July 28.
