Sri Lanka Beat New Zealand in the 1st Test by 63 Runs, Home Team Go Up 1-0 in the Series

Sri Lanka has won the first Test match of the two-match series against New Zealand by 63 runs. Sri Lanka was looking for two wickets on the last day of the match, Prabhat Jayasuriya took five wickets.

Sri Lanka vs New Zealand 1st Test: The New Zealand team is on a tour of Sri Lanka, where a Test series is being played between the two teams. In the first match of the series, Sri Lanka created a big upset and defeated New Zealand by 63 runs. With this victory, host Sri Lanka has taken a 1-0 lead.

The test match which started on 18th September ended on 23rd September, that is, not on the fifth day but on the sixth day. Sri Lanka needed two wickets on the last day of the match, while New Zealand needed 68 runs on the last day. All eyes were on Kiwi all-rounder Rachin Ravindra.

Chasing the target of 275 runs, New Zealand had scored 207 runs for 8 wickets by the end of the fourth day. The good thing for New Zealand was that Rachin Ravindra was unbeaten on 91 runs. On the fifth day, Sri Lanka had to take two more wickets to win, while New Zealand had to score the remaining 68 runs.

When the New Zealand team came out to chase this score, it could not hold on to the wicket for long. Within half an hour both its wickets fell. On the 5th day, Prabhat Jayasuriya took the remaining two wickets of New Zealand and with this, Sri Lanka won the match.

Prabhat Jayasuriya was the hero of Sri Lanka's victory in the Galle Test, who took a total of 9 wickets in both innings. He took 4 wickets in the first innings and 5 wickets in the second innings.

By defeating New Zealand in Galle, Sri Lanka has created a record of winning the maximum number of 25 Test matches at a single venue since the year 2000. Sri Lanka wrote the script of its 25th victory in Galle in the 43 Test matches played here.
