South Africa Squads for ODI and T20I Series: The visiting team's squad for the three-match ODI and five-match T20 series, which will follow the Test series between India and South Africa, has been revealed. The South African Cricket Association announced its ODI and T20 squads on Friday evening, November 21st. Temba Bavuma will lead the ODI team, while Aiden Markram will captain the T20 team.
Aiden Markram will not be part of the ODI squad and will return home after the Test series. However, he will return to India for the T20 series against India, starting December 9th, and lead his team. It's worth noting that South Africa's T20 squad has returned powerful players like David Miller and Anrich Nortje.
Kagiso Rabada, one of South Africa's most experienced bowlers, will miss both the ODI and T20 series against India due to an injury that has ruled him out of the entire Indian tour.
“Of course, we’ll miss KG (Kagiso Rabada) on this tour, but as we saw in the first Test win over India, this group has depth and that is one of our primary goals as a squad; to develop a unit filled with players who can step up at any time.”
"Every time someone is unavailable, it opens the door for another player to stand up. We want to see more players stand up as we have been seeing so often over the past couple of years.”
“It's also really good to welcome Anrich back into the T20I side after he missed the previous tours through injury. We know exactly what he brings, so we’re really looking forward to working with him,” said head coach Shukri Conrad in a statement.
Batter Rubin Hermann, who debuted against Pakistan earlier this month, retains his place in the Temba Bavuma-led ODI squad. Coach Shukri Conrad noted that the selection group already has one eye on building towards the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2027.
“In the 50-over format, these matches will give us a clear picture of where we are as a group and what we need to keep building on as we shape the squad ahead of the 2027 World Cup,” Conrad added.
