Sanjay Manjrekar feels Kuldeep Yadav and Axar Patel's roles are even bigger

Former India batter and commentator Sanjay Manjrekar believes spinners Kuldeep Yadav and Axar Patel have done a great job in the ongoing T20 World Cup as Ravindra Jadeja has been made to look like India's third bowling option. Manjrekar stated that the duo has outperformed Ravindra Jadeja in the tournament so far.

Jadeja's performance hasn't been up to the mark in this event. The all-rounder bowled only one over against Australia in the Super Eight match on the 24th of June giving away 17 runs in that over.

Manjrekar stated that both Kuldeep and Axar have bigger roles to play as compared to Jadeja. He said, "As compared to Kuldeep and Axar, Jadeja's role looks limited. Kuldeep has variety while Axar can vary his pace alongside his variety. Although Jadeja showcases accuracy and can make a batter commit mistakes, currently Kuldeep and Axar have bigger roles to play."

Manjrekar stated that Axar was skipper Rohit Sharma's go-to man ahead of Ravindra Jadeja by saying, "Team India is committed to using Axar as its first-choice spinner. Jadeja is the third option not only due to his performance but it is also the captain's call on who is the better left-arm off-spinner currently. Jadeja has claimed only one wicket in five innings in this T20 World Cup so far.

Performance against Australia will act as a confidence booster for Axar Patel

Manjrekar praised Axar Patel's performance against Australia stating that the left-arm off-spinner's confidence will be sky-high after this performance. Axar took a crucial wicket of Marcus Stoinis while he took a brilliant one-handed catch to get rid of Mitchell Marsh at the boundary line.

Manjrekar said, " Today's performance will be a confidence booster for Axar as he would hold this performance as one of the most crucial ones. Axar was against the odds as the opposition was Australia, the ground was small, and a left-handed batter who was flying like anything but Axar bowled well with an impressive economy rate."

India managed to defeat Australia by 24 runs in their last Super Eight match. India will be up against England in the semi-finals on Thursday the 27th of June in Guyana.
