Bangladesh defeats England in an unprecedented T20I series thanks to Mehidy Hasan Miraz
Bangladesh won three consecutive series against Zimbabwe, Australia, and New Zealand before dropping five of their subsequent six bilateral T20I matches.
England, led by Jos Buttler, held a commanding lead in the T20I series against Bangladesh. Despite the fact that the British are the current world champions, the Tigers have experienced their fair share of difficulties in the game's shortest version. From July to September 2021, Bangladesh won three consecutive series against Zimbabwe, Australia, and New Zealand before dropping five of their subsequent six bilateral T20I matches.
However, Shakib Al Hasan's men started off strong and demonstrated their skills. The hosts swept to success by four wickets in the second T20I on Sunday at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium in Dhaka after winning the first T20I in Chattogram by six wickets. Phil Salt smashed his way to 25 off 19 with three fours and a six after England was given the opportunity to play first.
The visitors appeared poised to put up a significant total after scoring 50 runs during the powerplay. The scoring was then stopped by the spin team of Mehidy Hasan Miraz and Shakib Al Hasan. Mehidy excelled, finishing with a record of 4-0-12-4. Shakib finished with a 3-0-13-1 record and the crucial wicket of Salt.
Mustafizur Rahman also delivered with stats of 4-0-19-1. The middle order of the English hitting lineup seriously struggled. Ben Duckett struggled to a run-a-ball total of 28 before Mustafizur took his wicket. In the end, Bangladesh knocked England out for 117. With the exception of Nasum Ahmed, who gave up 13 runs in his lone over of bowling, all of the Tigers' spinners were difficult to escape from. After Sam Curran and Jorfa Archer respectively dismissed Litton Das and Rony Talukdar, the hosts were put on edge.
Najmul Hossain Shanto, who took home the Player of the Match award in Chattogram, was once more in charge. As they ended with 32 for the loss of two wickets, the Tigers' powerplay wasn't the best. Before becoming Reham Ahmed's first T20I wicket, Towhid Hridoy struck two fours in his 18-ball 17. Mehidy started off strong with the bat after being chosen as the Tigers' best spinner.
He contributed 20 runs off 16 deliveries and two fours. Chris Jordan removed Shakib for a three-ball duck, but England didn't give up. With three wickets for 13 runs and only three runs allowed in the 18th over, Jofra Archer made things difficult for the batters. However, Taskin Ahmed struck two consecutive fours off Jordan, giving the Tigers a seven-ball victory. With three fours and 46 runs off of 47 deliveries, Shanto continued to be unbeaten. What a cricketing day for Bangladesh. Historical!
