No Winner- No Loser, India vs Sri Lanka 1st ODI Match Ended in a Tied
The first ODI match played between India and Sri Lanka was tied. The scores of both the teams were equal, that is 230 runs.
India vs Sri Lanka 1st ODI Tied: The first ODI International between India and Sri Lanka ended in a thrilling tie. Sri Lanka won the toss and batted first and scored 230 runs. In reply, India also got all out on the same score. When Team India needed only one run in 15 balls to win, first Shivam Dubey and then Arshdeep Singh were out in two consecutive balls.
Now the second match of the series will be played on the same ground on Sunday, August 4. Captain Rohit Sharma scored the highest 58 runs for India. Spinner Wanindu Hasaranga took maximum three wickets for Sri Lanka.
Earlier in the match Sri Lankan captain Charith Asalanka chose to bat after winning the toss on a turning pitch, but did not have a good start and lost the wicket of Avishka Fernando, who was sent to the pavilion by Mohammed Siraj. Then Nissanka and Kusal Mendis (14 runs) tried to make a comeback by adding 39 for the second wicket.
The effort of the Indian bowlers was also good, who forced the Sri Lankan batsmen to play bad shots. Mendis was LBW by Dubey. Sri Lanka's score went from 46 runs for two wickets to 101 runs for five wickets in the 27th over. Wickets kept falling from one end but Dunith Wellalage stood firm at the other end, scoring his first ODI half-century in 59 balls and taking his team past the 200-run mark.
With this Sri Lanka managed to scored 230 runs in the end of 50 overs and Dunith Wellalage stays not out with 67* runs in 65 balls.
After this, it was the turn of the Indian team, in front of which this target did not seem very big. Captain Rohit Sharma, who is returning to the team about a month after winning the T20 World Cup, made an aggressive start by scoring a half-century in just 33 balls. It seemed that Team India would win this match easily but from here Vellallage started doing wonders in bowling and quickly took the wickets of Shubhman Gill and Rohit.
Whereas Virat Kohli, Washington Sundar, Shreyas Iyer also could not last long and the Sri Lankan spinners took control of the match. The 57-run partnership between KL Rahul and Axar Patel raised hopes of victory again but Hasaranga and Asalanka took the wickets of both. From here Shivam Dubey took over the innings and brought the score to par with strong batting. The team needed 1 run in 15 balls and 2 wickets were left, but Asalanka tied the match by getting Shivam and Arshdeep Singh out LBW on consecutive balls.
