India's 'Unlucky' Umpire in the Final, Rahul Dravid Talks about Two Teams Before the Final
ICC T20 World Cup 2024: India has not had success in ICC events for the past decade. South Africa has never won any trophy in its cricketing history. The two teams will meet on Saturday (June 29) in a battle for T20 World Cup supremacy.
India's 'Unlucky' umpire in charge of the final
India and South Africa will play the title-deciding match at the Kingston Oval in Barbados at 8 pm IST. Where India's 'unlucky' umpire Richard Kettleborough is staying as the third umpire. Kettleborough has been called 'unlucky' because of India's lack of success in knockout matches under his charge.
The 2014 T20 World Cup started with Team India losing the final against Sri Lanka. Kettleborough was the on-field umpire in that match. In 2015, India reached the semi-finals of the ODI World Cup, where they lost to Australia by 95 runs. Kettleborough was the on-field umpire in that match as well.
India hosted T20 World Cup in 2016. They left the semi-finals in their home ground. Seber was also Kettleborough's on-field umpire. After that, Team India lost the final of the Champions Trophy in 2017, the semi-final of the ODI World Cup in 2019 and the final in 2023. Kettleborough officiated in every match.
When the past is like that, Indian fans can be worried. Will the team India be able to open the Kettleborough 'Curse' this time?
Indian Head Coach Rahul Dravid said two best teams will play the final
Last year, India lost the ODI World Cup against Australia at home. They lost to a mentally strong team. Before the final against South Africa, the talk of that final is also doing the rounds. But India will forget the memory of that loss and play a new final.
This is South Africa's first final in World Cup cricket. South Africa always chocked in ICC knockouts. Talking about this Indian coach Rahul Dravid said, 'It is not like the same players are playing since 1991. Many players have come and gone. I don't think it matters much. I don't think Indian players leave the stuff of the past behind. Every day is a new day.
Dravid also said, 'The players know how to move forward. I think I will come out of what happened in Ahmedabad. I am so sure that they will not think anything about history. It's a new day. I think both teams are the best teams in this tournament. South Africa and India played their best cricket in this tournament. I hope everyone will agree with this.
The Indian coach also said, 'Boys are ready to play physically, mentally and tactically. We are looking forward to the game. We have completed all our strategic preparations. We can control them.
South African captain Aiden Markram said, "We were happy after qualifying for the final. We have one more step left. No one wants to lose, especially in the finals. I think our guys have the hunger to win. We will definitely want to win the match. The opportunity to play in the finals is very exciting for me."
