Indian cricket team has defeated Bangladesh by 280 runs in the first test match played at MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. Bangladesh was all out after scoring 234 runs in the second innings.
India Beat Bangladesh by 280 Runs in 1st Test: India has taken a 1-0 lead in the two-match series by defeating Bangladesh by 280 runs in the first Test played in Chennai. Chasing the target of 515 runs, Bangladesh's second innings was ended to 234 runs. Ravichandran Ashwin wreaked havoc and took six wickets. This was his 37th five wicket haul in Test and he equaled the great Shane Warne in this matter. Nazmul Hussain Shanto scored the highest 82 runs for Bangladesh.
Batting first after losing the toss, India scored 376 runs in the first innings. In reply, Bangladesh's first innings ended at 149 runs. The Indian team batted in the second innings with a lead of 227 runs without allowing Bangladesh to follow on. India declared their second innings at 287 runs for four wickets and got a total lead of 514 runs.
On Sunday, Bangladesh started the game at 158 runs for four wickets and lost the remaining six wickets to add 76 runs. Ashwin gave the first blow to Bangladesh on Sunday. He sent Shakib Al Hasan to the pavilion. There was a partnership of 48 runs between Shakib and Shanto. Shakib scored 25 runs.
After Shakib's wicket India got wickets one after one. Ravindra Jadeja got Liton Das caught by Rohit Sharma in the slips. Liton could score one run. Ashwin achieved the feat of taking five wickets in an innings for the 37th time in Test when Mehdi Hasan Miraj (8) was caught by Jadeja.
After this, Jadeja got captain Nazmul Hussain Shanto caught by Bumrah. He played an excellent inning of 82 runs in 127 balls with the help of eight fours and three sixes. Then Ashwin got Taskin Ahmed caught by Siraj. He could score five runs. Bangladesh's innings ended at 234 runs as Jadeja clean bowled Hasan Mahmood (7).
Earlier on Saturday, Zakir Hasan (33), Shadman Islam (35), Mominul Haq (13) and Mushfiqur Rahim (13) had returned to the pavilion. Ashwin had taken three wickets till Saturday. He had sent Shadman, Mominul and Rahim to the pavilion.
Ashwin's Top Performance
In this first Test match, Ashwin scored his sixth Test century. Ashwin scored 113 runs in 133 balls with the help of 11 fours and two sixes, which shows his batting ability. Although he did not get any wicket in the first innings of Bangladesh, Ashwin made up for it in the second innings. He showed his bowling prowess by taking six wickets.
Thus his brilliant performance Ashwin also won Man of the Match award.
