After Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma, Indian team's star all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja has also announced his retirement from the T20 international format. He gave this information through an Instagram post. India beat South Africa by seven runs in Barbados on Saturday to clinch the title.
Jadeja wrote, "It is with all my heart that I say goodbye to T20 Internationals. Like a determined horse galloping proudly, I have always given my best for my country and will continue to do so in other formats as well. Winning the T20 World Cup was a dream come true, a pinnacle of my T20 international career. Thanks for the memories, enthusiasm and unwavering support."
Jadeja made his debut in T20 International cricket on 10 February 2009. He played his first match against Sri Lanka in Colombo. In his debut T20, Jadeja did not take any wicket for 29 runs in 4 overs. Whereas 5 runs were scored on 7 balls with the bat.
Jadeja played the last match of T20 World Cup 2024 final. In this match, Jadeja scored 2 runs with the bat. Whereas even in bowling, he could not take any wicket by giving 12 runs. That means his debut and last match have been almost the same.
Ravindra Jadeja has played 74 T20 matches for India. Scored 515 runs. Took 54 wickets. Jadeja did not get success in this T20 World Cup this time. But without Jadeja, who excels in batting, bowling and fielding, the team formation is quite difficult. India will not get that Jadeja in T20 cricket.
Virat and Jadeja won the U-19 World Cup together in 2008. After that they also played together in the Indian team. Virat and Jadeja retired together this time after winning the T20 World Cup.
Yesterday Virat Kohli came to collect the man of the match award and announced his retirement. He said, “That was my last T20 World Cup. I did exactly what I wanted to achieve. Sometimes it feels like you might not be getting runs. A big run followed. Actually for me it was now or never.”
Rohit announced his retirement at the press conference after the match. He said, “That was my last T20 match for India. After this I will not play T20 for the country again. There could not be a better time to make this decision. It was in this format that I made my debut in the Indian team."
