India Won the 1st ODI Match by 4 Wickets against England in Nagpur

India vs England 1st ODI Match: The first match of the three-match ODI series between India and England was played in Nagpur. The Indian team won it with a bang. India achieved the target of 249 runs in less than 40 overs. By winning this match by 4 wickets, India has taken a 1-0 lead in the ODI series.

With this series, which is considered important in terms of preparation for the Champions Trophy, Team India made a comeback to ODI cricket after a long time. Earlier, the Indian team played 3 ODIs on the Sri Lanka tour in July-August, which was India's first and only ODI series after the World Cup 2023 final. In such a situation, all eyes were on how the players of Team India adapt themselves to this format. Most of the players did not disappoint.

In this match, the Indian team bowled first and Mohammad Shami made a tight start. But on the other hand, the English openers attacked Harshit Rana, who was making his ODI debut. Both of them had added 75 runs in just 9 overs, when Phil Salt (45) was run out. From here, Team India started a comeback. Harshit played an important role in this. He first took the wickets of Ben Duckett (32) and then Harry Brook (0). Ravindra Jadeja again made Joe Root (19) his victim.

In the middle order, captain Jos Butler along with young all-rounder Jacob Bethell took charge of the team. First Butler (52) scored a half-century and then after his dismissal, Bethell (51) along with the lower order took the team past 200. He also completed his half-century but he too became a victim of Jadeja. In the end, Jofra Archer (21) hit some big shots and took the team to a match-worthy score of 248. Harshit and Jadeja took 3-3 wickets, while Shami, Akshar and Kuldeep Yadav got 1-1 success.

Harshit Rana's debut was strong, now all eyes were on Yashasvi Jaiswal. Virat Kohli was out of this match due to injury, due to which Jaiswal (15) got a chance to make his ODI debut. However, he looked troubled in front of the excellent bowling of Jofra Archer and Saqib Mahmood and finally became Archer's victim. On the other hand, captain Rohit (2) disappointed again. The poor form of the Test format continued in ODIs as well and he again lost his wicket by playing the wrong shot.

From here, Shreyas Iyer and Shubman Gill (87) laid the foundation for victory by playing strong innings. Iyer (59) in particular attacked as soon as he came, in which 2 sixes and 1 four in Archer's over were the most powerful. Iyer scored a half-century in just 30 balls but could not convert his innings into a big score. After his dismissal, Akshar (52) was promoted and he along with Gill made a partnership of 108 runs, which ensured victory. Akshar scored his half-century and was bowled by Adil Rashid, while Shubman Gill was out just 13 runs before his century. After this, Hardik Pandya and Ravindra Jadeja led the team to victory.

Player of the Match: Shubman Gill (IND) 87 (96).
