Former Team India's Batting Coach Vikram Rathour Joins New Zealand Coaching Staff also Appointed Sri Lankan Veteran
Before the Test series against Afghanistan and Sri Lanka, New Zealand on Friday included former India batting coach Vikram Rathore and Sri Lanka's veteran spinner Rangana Herath in its coaching staff.
Vikram Rathour and Rangana Herath Joins New Zealand Coaching Staff: Former batting coach of the Indian cricket team, Vikram Rathour has joined hands with New Zealand. He will support New Zealand in the Test to be played in India. Vikram Rathore was the batting coach of Team India that won the T20 World Cup 2024 title. However, his tenure ended after the T20 World Cup. Now he decided to join the coaching staff of New Zealand.
Only for One-Off Test Against Afghanistan
Let us tell you that a test is to be played between New Zealand and Afghanistan at the Greater Noida Sports Complex Ground in India. Vikram Rathore has joined the coaching staff of New Zealand for this only test. New Zealand Cricket Board gave information about Vikram Rathod joining the coaching staff through a press release on Friday (06 September).
Vikram Rathore played 6 Tests and 7 ODI matches for Team India between 1996 and 1997. Apart from this, he was the batting coach of Team India. Before becoming the batting coach, he was also the selector of Team India in 2012.
Rangana Herath as Spin Bowling Coach
Former Sri Lankan spin bowler Rangana Herath has also got a big responsibility. New Zealand Cricket has appointed Rangana Herath as the new spin bowling coach of the New Zealand team for the Test match with Afghanistan. Due to which now the spin bowling department of Kiwi team can become stronger.
Herath is one of Sri Lanka's most successful spin bowlers. He has played 93 test matches for Sri Lanka. In 170 innings of 93 matches, he has taken 433 wickets at an average of 28.08. He has taken 5 wicket hauls 34 times. His best performance has been 9/127. He has also taken 10 wickets in 1 Test match 9 times including both innings.
Talking about this announcement New Zealand's Head coach Gary Stead Said “Both men are held in high regard in the world of cricket and I know our players are really looking forward to the opportunity to learn from them."
“For our three left-arm orthodox spinners in particular, Ajaz, Mitch and Rachin, having the chance to work with Rangana across three Tests on the sub-continent will be hugely beneficial."
“Rangana has taken over 100 Test wickets in Galle which is the venue of our two Tests against Sri Lanka and so his knowledge of that venue will be priceless.” Stead also added.
