Expert committee appointed by the Karnataka Government for the final round of the Chinnaswamy stadium inspection

A team of experts appointed by the Karnataka Government is expected to inspect today, i.e., the 13th of March, after which a decision will be made on whether Chinnaswamy Stadium can host IPL games for the upcoming season. Approvals were granted this month to host games at the stadium, including IPL matches. KSCA is hopeful of hosting the games here.

KSCA has been working on the renovation of the stadium and has constructed new entry gates, and is also working on widening the existing gates. The work includes the construction of new skywalks and also constructing new holding area near the old National Cricket Academy. It also includes constructing new entry and exit routes in case of any emergency.

KSCA was given time till the 15th of March to complete all formalities as per the guidelines of the Justice D’ Cunha Committee, which was implemented after the stampede last year during the celebrations of the Royal Challengers Bengaluru win that led to 11 people losing their lives. The committee investigated the safety and structural audit of the stadium premises.

The renovation of the stadium started in December after the KSCA elections. Former Indian pacer Venkatesh Prasad was chosen as the President, and his committee coordinated with the Karnataka Government regarding the renovation of the stadium. KSCA stated that the safety audit guidelines that were adopted last year to cut the power supply of the Stadium premises were also monitored.

KSCA stated that RCB would play its games at the stadium after negotiating with the state government. KSCA is also coordinating with Bengaluru Metro Rail Corporation to improve the crowd management procedure.

Scanning of tickets through QR Code is the next step, which the RCB is planning to implement to reduce overcrowding and to ensure easy entry into the stadium by making online tickets available for physical ones on the eve of a particular game.

The first match of the 19th edition would be played at the Chinnaswamy Stadium on the 28th of March between Royal Challengers Bengaluru and Sunrisers Hyderabad. The stadium will host its second match of the season on the 5th of April, that would be played between RCB and Chennai Super Kings.

RCB will play five games at the Chinnaswamy Stadium, and the other two matches will be played at the Shaheed Veer Narayan Stadium in Raipur, Chhattisgarh.
