Sai Sudarshan registered yet another record to his name while playing against KKR on Saturday, the 16th of May at Eden Gardens, Kolkata. The Tamil Nadu-born became the fastest to register 3000 runs in T20 cricket. He achieved this landmark in 78 innings. GT won the toss and chose to bowl first.

 KKR scored 247/2 in 20 overs. Finn Allen scored 93 in 35 balls, hitting 10 sixes and 4 fours. Angkrish Raghuvanshi scored an unbeaten 84 in 44 balls, hitting 4 fours and 7 sixes, while all-rounder Cameron Green scored an unbeaten 52 in 28 balls, hitting 3 fours and 4 sixes for KKR. Sai Kishore and Mohammed Siraj took 1 wicket each for GT.

During the run chase, Sai Sudarshan scored an unbeaten 53 in 28 balls, hitting 6 fours and 3 sixes for GT. Captain Shubman Gill scored 85 in 49 balls, hitting 5 fours and 7 sixes. Jos Buttler scored 57 in 35 balls, hitting 5 fours and 2 sixes. GT lost by 29 runs. Sunil Narine registered figures of 2/29 for KKR.

 Sudarshan broke the record of former Australian left-hander Shaun Marsh, who earlier scored 3000 runs in 85 T20 innings. Another Australian batter, D'Arcy Short, previously scored 3000 runs in 86 T20 innings, while New Zealand left-hander Devon Conway also scored 3000 runs in 86 T20 innings. Former West Indies opener Chris Gayle had earlier registered this record in 90 T20 innings.

Sudarshan became the first player to score the fastest 3000 in T20s by registering this unique record in less than 80 T20 innings. Sai Sudarshan has so far scored 554 runs in 13 IPL games this season and remains the highest scorer in the ongoing season. Another Indian batter, Tilak Varma, who plays for MI, registered 3000 runs in 90 T20 innings.
