Punjab Kings spin bowling coach Sairaj Bahutule has praised Shreyas Iyer for the way the 31-year-old has led the team so far in the ongoing IPL season. Bahutule stated that Shreyas has added calmness to the team. Bahutule also appreciated the head coach, Ricky Ponting, for bringing a strong work ethic into the team.

Punjab Kings showcased a determined resolve to chase a big target of 265 against Delhi Capitals on Saturday, the 25th of April at Delhi’s Arun Jaitley Stadium. PBKS won by 6 wickets with 7 balls remaining.

PBKS are so far unbeaten in the ongoing season under Iyer’s captaincy, having won 6 of their 7 games, with one match ending in a no result. Bahutule stated that he has reviewed Iyer's performances closely, and his captaincy traits are special. He stated that he has witnessed Iyer’s growth closely as the right-hander has played for Mumbai from the junior level.

 Bahutule added that Shreyas has built a fine rapport with the support staff, players, and with head coach Ricky Ponting. Bahutule further added that Ricky Ponting created the foundation last season, and the results are visible now.

Bahutule added that Shreyas knows how to bring out the best in a particular player, and his calm temperament helps him under pressure. He stated that PBKS bowlers have implemented plans effectively, and the team management has used the bowlers as per the situations.

Bahutule appreciated opener Priyansh Arya, stating that the left-hander’s calm temperament is his biggest strength. Bahutule stated that keeping in mind Priyansh’s game, the 24-year-old left-hander can get a call in the Indian team in the future. Bahutule also praised leg spinner Yuzvendra Chahal for the way he has bowled with variety and has used his experience to good effect.
