Virat Kohli continued his brilliant form in the 2024 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL). He scored an unbeaten 83 in 59 balls on Friday after a 77 -run innings of 77 runs against Punjab Kings at M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru last week. However, fans are explaining the reason for RCB's defeat against Kolkata Knight Riders on the home ground. However, the great Sunil Gavaskar does not agree with this. He believes that Kohli could have hit 120 runs. He has described RCB as a villain for not doing so.
In the match, RCB could only manage 186 for 6 wickets in 20 overs, which KKR easily achieved with 19 balls remaining. Angered by RCB's defeat on the home ground, former India captain Sunil Gavaskar criticized the Bengaluru batsmen for not supporting Kohli's work. Kohli shared two partnerships with Cameroon Green and 42 runs with Glenn Maxwell after captain Faf du Plessis got out early.
When Kohli tried to maintain pace through two partnerships, two later partnerships failed to score a big score. RCB scored 182 runs for six wickets after Dinesh Karthik's useful cameo, who scored 20 runs in 8 balls with the help of 3 sixes. KKR achieved a fast start of Sunil Naren (47 out of 22) and with the help of a fierce half -century of Venkatesh Iyer (50) (50) at the loss of seven wickets in 16.5 overs.
The defeat not only ended the process of nine consecutive domestic victories since the start of the season in IPL 2024, but also increased the record of KKR's victory in Chinnaswamy. He is invincible in Bengaluru against RCB since 2015. Disappointed with the poor batting performance of the rest of the RCB line-up players, Gavaskar said- if the players like Green and Maxwell had supported him well, Kohli would have scored a century against KKR.
He said- You tell me how much Kohli alone will do it alone. Somebody has to bat with them. Had there been support, he would have definitely scored 120 runs instead of 83. This is a team game and good batting at both ends is necessary here.
