IPL 2024 Final: If the Final is Washed Away by Rain, which Team will be the Champion of IPL?
The final of the 17th season of IPL is waiting for the curtain to come down. Kolkata Knight Riders and Sunrisers Hyderabad will meet in the final in the title fight. However, the rain has become a cause of concern before that match.
IPL 2024 Final KKR vs SRH
The final match of IPL will be held at Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on Sunday (May 26) at 8 pm Bangladesh time. However, doubts have arisen whether the match will start at the scheduled time. Chennai is also affected by the low pressure created in the Bay of Bengal. Kolkata Knight Riders could not practice due to rain on the day before the match. There is also a risk of rain on the day of the match.
However, the impact of Cyclone Remal may not stay in Chennai. As a result, there is no reason for the IPL final not to take place. Because there is almost no possibility of continuous rain there.
Yet the thought of IPL fans is, what if the final match on Sunday is scrapped for some reason! Who will be the champion of 2024 IPL?
The weather forecast says there is a 47 percent chance of rain in Chennai during the day and 32 percent in the evening. In the current IPL, many matches have already been washed away due to rain. But those were group stage matches. The two teams shared the points. But in the final stage, any team has to give the title.
An additional 120 minutes will be allocated even if the game is interrupted by rain on Sunday. That means, there will be 2 hours more time for the match.
According to the rules, both teams have to bat at least 5 overs to get the result of the T20 match. But if that opportunity is not available on Sunday, then the match will be played on Monday on the reserve day. In that case, the game will be scheduled in 20 overs. But if the minimum overs are not played due to rain, then the title will go to the team that is on top of the points table at the end of the group stage match.
Kolkata Knight Riders finished this year's IPL group stage at the top of the table with 20 points from 14 matches. On the other hand, Hyderabad was second with 17 points. As a result, if the Reserve Day game is also abandoned due to rain, the title will be won in Kolkata's house. A picture that has never been seen before in IPL.
Before this, the final was played on the reserve day in the last season. Chennai Super Kings beat Gujarat to win the title.
