India vs New Zealand 1st Test Day 3: New Zealand gained a huge lead of 356 runs against India on the third day. In reply, India has also scored 231 runs for three wickets in the second innings. Captain Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli and Sarfaraz Khan scored half centuries for India. However, the Indian team is currently trailing by 125 runs.

India lost the wicket of set batsman Virat Kohli on the last ball of the third day's play. Kohli and Sarfaraz Khan were building a great partnership which was broken by Glenn Phillips by dismissing Kohli. India has thus scored 231 runs for three wickets in the second innings by the end of the day's play. India is still trailing New Zealand by 125 runs. At the time of stumps, Sarfaraz Khan is present at the crease after scoring 70 runs off 78 balls with the help of seven fours and three sixes.

New Zealand scored 402 runs in their first innings on the third day and took a huge lead of 356 runs. In the second innings, Yashasvi Jaiswal and captain Rohit Sharma gave the team a good start and added 72 runs for the first wicket. This partnership ended with the dismissal of Yashasvi Jaiswal. Yashasvi scored 35 runs off 52 balls. After this, Rohit played a brilliant innings and scored the 18th half-century of his Test career, but he got out in a strange manner. Rohit scored 52 runs off 63 balls with the help of eight fours and a six.

After falling two wickets Kohli and Sarfaraz took the charge and both batsmen made a partnership of 136 runs for the third wicket. First Sarfaraz scored the fourth half century of his test career and then Kohli also hit a fifty. During this Kohli became the fourth Indian batsman to complete 9,000 runs in Tests. Kohli and Sarfaraz took India out of trouble to a great extent, but Kohli was caught out by the wicketkeeper on the ball of Phillips and this partnership came to an end. Stumps were declared as soon as Kohli returned to the pavilion. From New Zealand's side Ajaz Patel got two wickets and Phillips got one wicket so far.

Second Highest Scores in a day of a Test Match in India

A total of 453 runs were scored and 10 wickets fell on the third day of the first match being played between India and New Zealand at M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bangalore. This is the second highest score made in a single day in a Test match played in India. The highest number of runs scored on a single day in a Test match in India was in the match played between India and Sri Lanka in 2009. A total of 470 runs were scored on the second day of that Test match.

Virat Kohli Entered Elite Group of 9000 Runs in Test Cricket

Virat Kohli became the fourth Indian batter to score 9000 Test runs during the first match between India and New Zealand at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru on today. He achieved the milestone in his 197th innings, joining an elite group alongside Sachin Tendulkar, Rahul Dravid and Sunil Gavaskar.
