BCCI announces squad for Zimbabwe T20Is, Shubman Gill to lead while Riyan Parag and Abhishek Sharma are included in the squad.
Shubman Gill will lead the Men in Blue in what will be a youthful squad for the upcoming Zimbabwe tour that will begin from the 6th of July.
BCCI recently announced the squad for the five-match T20Is against Zimbabwe starting from the 6th of July. Shubman Gill will lead a young side consisting of players like Riyan Parag, Abhishek Sharma, Dhruv Jurel, and Tushar Deshpande.
Nitish Reddy was included in the squad for his fine performances in the IPL but had to be replaced with Shivam Dube due to an injury. Abhishek Sharma has been included in the squad for his fine performances for Sunrisers Hyderabad in the IPL. The Punjab left-hander hit the highest number of sixes in the IPL hitting 42 sixes in 16 IPL games. Riyan Parag has also been included for his impressive performances for Rajasthan Royals in the IPL where he scored 573 runs and was the third-highest run-getter in the tournament. Both players are useful spin options also.
Dhruv Jurel had an ordinary IPL season but he impressed a lot while performing in pressure situations while batting in the lower order against England in this year's test series which might have prompted the selectors to include him.
Tushar Deshpande has looked promising in the domestic circuit as well as for Chennai Super Kings due to which he was included in the squad. Other members of the squad have been part of the squad for the last 2-3 years. Sanju Samson will be the wicket-keeper batter. Dhruv Jurel is another wicketkeeper batter but he can be used as a secondary option.
It has to be seen where Ruturaj Gaikwad can bat if Shubman Gill opens the batting with Yashasvi Jaiswal. One of the batters will have to play at no 3. Khaleel Ahmed has been included in the squad and was named in the traveling reserves for the T20 World Cup. Pacers Mukesh Kumar and Avesh Khan have been named in the squad while spinners Ravi Bishnoi and Washington Sundar have also been named in the squad. All five matches of the 5 match T20I series will be played at the Harare Sports Club.
