Bangladesh Suspends Coach Chandika Hathurusingha and Appointed West Indies Veteran Phil Simmons

New Head Coach of Bangladesh Cricket Team: Bangladesh Cricket Board has suspended the head coach of the men's team. Former Sri Lankan all-rounder Chandika Hathurusingha was the head coach. Bangladesh recently faced a clean sweep in the Test and T20 series against India. The team was unable to compete with India in any match. But before that, Bangladesh had won a historic Test series against Pakistan at their home.

Bangladesh head coach Chandika Hathurusingha was not removed due to poor performance on the India tour. Rather, he has been suspended for misbehaving with a player during the ODI World Cup played in India. The BCB investigated a player's allegation that the coach slapped him during the World Cup last year. Hathurusingha's contract was till the Champions Trophy in 2025.

"Hathurusingha has two counts of misconduct," BCB president Faruque Ahmed confirmed. "The first is an assault on a player, and the second is that he took more leaves than allowed in his contract."

Hathurusingha became the coach of Bangladesh for the second time in February last year. The team's performance under his leadership was not good. During Hathurusingha's tenure, Bangladesh's performance in the 2023 ODI World Cup and the 2024 T20 World Cup was disappointing.

Phil Simmons Appointed as Head Coach for Bangladesh
The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) have appointed former West Indies all-rounder Phil Simmons as head coach of the national men’s side. Simmons, the man who has replaced Hathurusinghe, has previously had coaching stints with Zimbabwe, Afghanistan and West Indies. Simmons, 61, will arrive in Dhaka on Wednesday to join the Tigers in preparation for their ICC World Test Championship series against South Africa.

BCB President Faruque Ahmed expressed his pleasure at Simmons’ appointment.

“I have had the opportunity to speak to Phil Simmons and have listened to his cricket philosophy and ideas. His extensive coaching experience, vision and proven track record of success make him an ideal choice for this role.”
