Cricket South Africa announced the list of contracted players for the 2024-25 season on 26th of March, Tuesday. The most surprising decision taken by the cricket board was the exclusion of Quinton De Kock and pacer Anrich Nortje. Both players are currently playing for their IPL franchises. De Kock is playing for Lucknow Super Giants while Nortje is with Delhi Capitals after making a comeback from injury. Nortje hasn't represented South Africa since September 2023 after suffering a stress fracture as he wasn't part of the 2023 World Cup squad in India. Although the pacer played in two domestic games. The 31-year-old has currently joined the Delhi Capitals squad and can play in the IPL at the earliest.

Enoch Nkwe, director of Cricket South Africa stated that Nortje wanted to play T20 cricket but he doesn't want to retire from other formats. Nkwe has stated that for the next few months, he wants to concentrate more on T20 cricket. According to Nkwe, the speedster wants to make himself available for T20 Internationals and doesn't want to retire from other forms. Nkwe told ESPNCricinfo, that the pacer could play in the limited-overs format again till the end of the year. Due to the birth of his first child one week ago, Nortje delayed his participation in the IPL.

On the other hand, Quinton De Kock announced his retirement from the limited-overs format after the ODI World Cup in India last year. The South Africa wicketkeeper batter has stated that he would play T20I cricket but the left-hander didn't play in the T20I series against India in South Africa last year. The 31-year-old played in the Australian Big Bash League and then arrived to play in SA20. The left-hander was given a break in the earlier matches in the CSA domestic T20 challenge. Nkwe stated that the left-hander wants to play in the T20I World Cup but he needs to perform to get selected in the squad.

Newcomers Nandre and Tony De Zorzi have been included in the contracted players list for 2024-25 by Cricket South Africa. Nandre Burger has represented South Africa in all formats and the pacer played a key role against India in the two-match test series in 2023- 2024 claiming 11 wickets. The pacer was the joint second-highest wicket-taker in the entire test series. On the other hand, De Zorzi has represented South Africa in ODIs as well as Tests.
