Team India Beat South Africa by 28 Runs in Warm-up Match for Women's T20 World Cup 2024
India's women's cricket team has boosted their confidence ahead of the T20 World Cup. Harmanpreet's team beat South Africa in the warm-up match on Tuesday.
Indian Women's Team Beat South Africa in Warm-up Match: Indian women's cricket team defeated South Africa in their second warm-up match today. Batting first, the Indian team scored 144 runs for 7 wickets. In reply, South Africa made 116 for 6. This 28-run win will boost the confidence of the Indian women cricketers ahead of the tournament.
South African captain Laura Wolvaardt won the toss and sent India into bat. Shefali Verma (nil) got out early but didn't have much of a problem. Aggressive batting by Smriti Mandhana (21 off 22 balls), Jemimah Rodriguez (30 off 26 balls), Richa Ghosh (36 off 25 balls), Deepti Sharma (35 not out off 29 balls) put the Indian team in a fighting position.
However, skipper Harmanpreet (10) did not get a run at number three. Richa and Deepti added 70 runs for the fifth wicket. Wicketkeeper-batsman Richa hit 2 fours and a six. 2 fours come from Deepti's bat. Ayabonga Khaka caught the attention of South African bowlers. He took 5 wickets for 25 runs.
Came out to bat with a target of 145 runs to win, South Africa lost wickets at consecutive intervals. The two openers, Laura Wolvaardt and Tazmin Brits, did not make a bad start. Their pair scored 37 runs. Captain Wolvaardt scored 29 off 26 balls. Tazmin's contribution is 22 off 25 balls.
Apart from this, Chloe Tryon came down to bat at number five and scored 24 off 20 balls. In the end, Annerie Dercksen made some effort by playing an unbeaten innings of 21 runs from 16 balls. However, it was not enough to give the team victory.
Harmanpreet Kaur (1/2) and Shafali Verma (1/13) also rolled their arms in the death overs and were among the wicket-takers.
This was India’s second and final warm-up match before the group stage of the Women’s T20 World Cup begins on Thursday. India had beaten West Indies in their first warm-up match on Sunday. The Indian women’s cricket team will kick off the World Cup campaign against New Zealand in Group A on Friday.
