Shreyas Iyer and Mohammed Shami aren't Included in the Squad for 1st Test against Bangladesh

India's first Test match against Bangladesh will be played from September 19 at MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai while the second match will start from September 27 at Green Park Stadium in Kanpur. Shreyas Iyer and Mohammed Shami have not been included in the 16-member team announced by BCCI for the first match.

Shreyas Iyer wasn't Selected
Star batsman Shreyas Iyer has not been made a part of the squad selected for the first match. This decision of BCCI has surprised everyone. If we look at his past performances, he could not show anything special in the ODI World Cup and Duleep Trophy.

Earlier this year, Iyer suffered an injury during the Test series against England due to which he was out of the team. Apart from this, he was dropped from the BCCI's central contracts after being unavailable for Mumbai in the Ranji Trophy. However, his recent performances in the longer formats like the Buchi Babu tournament and the first innings of the Duleep Trophy have not been impressive.

Iyer also led Kolkata Knight Riders to the IPL 2024 title. The competition for the middle order in the Indian Test team has intensified. The rise of Sarfaraz Khan and consistent performances of KL Rahul have pushed Iyer down the order.

Md Shami out of the test team
Mohammed Shami was last seen playing for India in the ODI World Cup 2023. BCCI chief selector Ajit Agarkar, while recently talking about the return of Mohammed Shami, had expressed hope that he can make a comeback before the Bangladesh series. However, Shami is still working on his comeback and has not been included in the Test team selected for the upcoming series.

Although Shami can be seen playing for Bengal in Ranji Trophy. There is also speculation that Shami may miss at least the first Test of the three-match series against New Zealand. He has not been a part of the team for a long time.

Actually, Shami had recently gone abroad for ankle surgery. After the successful surgery, he is now undergoing rehabilitation. It is believed that Shami can play in either of Bengal's first two Ranji matches against Uttar Pradesh on October 11 and Bihar on October 18.
