Sanju Samson Out of ODI Squad: The Indian squad for the upcoming ODI and T20I series against Sri Lanka (IND vs SL) was announced on 18 July. Suryakumar Yadav will lead the Indian team in the T20 series. Rohit Sharma will captain the ODI series. Shubman Gill has been made vice-captain in T20 and ODI series.

The surprising thing is that wicketkeeper batsman Sanju Samson did not get a place in the team for the ODI series against Sri Lanka. However, Sanju has been kept in the T20 team. Sanju Samson scored a century in his last ODI against a team like South Africa.

The match against South Africa on 21 December 2023 was Team India's last match in this format recently. Now it was a little surprising that Sanju was not included in the squad for the ODI series. There could be three major reasons behind Sanju not being picked in the team.

With veteran batsman KL Rahul, it was difficult for Sanju Samson to get a place in the ODI team. Rahul's recent performance in ODI cricket has been excellent. Continuity is also quite evident in this format. Rahul had a great performance with the bat in the 2023 ODI World Cup. Rahul played 10 innings and scored 452 runs in that World Cup. Scored at an average of 75.33 and a strike rate of 90.76 with a century and two half-centuries. The highest score was 102 runs.

Indian selectors now look to the future. In such a situation, keeping in mind the 2027 ODI World Cup, the Indian Cricket Board wants to give opportunities to cricketers like Rishabh Pant. Since Rishabh Pant is a left-handed batsman, he can provide the team with left-right combination. His aggressive batting and wicketkeeping skills also proved useful for the team.

Sanju Samson has played 16 ODIs and 28 T20Is so far in his international career. Sanju scored 510 runs at an average of 56.66 in ODIs. Scored 1 century and 3 half-centuries in ODIs. Scored 444 runs at an average of 21.14 in T20 Internationals, including two half-centuries. The Indian team will start the tour of Sri Lanka from July 27.

The first match of the three-match T20 series between India and Sri Lanka will be played. The first T20 on July 27, the second T20 and the last T20 on July 28 and 30. These matches will start from 7 PM IST at Pallekele.

Then there will be a three-match ODI series between the two teams. The first ODI will be on August 2. After that, the remaining two ODI matches will be on August 4 and 7. All three ODIs will be played at the Premadasa Stadium in Colombo, the capital of Sri Lanka. These ODI matches will be played from 2:30 pm Indian time.
