New Zealand Became the Champions of Women's T20 as they Beat South Africa by 32 Runs in the Final
Women's cricket gets its new T20 World Champions as New Zealand beat South Africa by 32 runs today in the final match of ICC Women's T20 World Cup 2024.
New Zealand Champions of Women's T20 World Cup: The new champion of the Women's T20 World Cup has now emerged. The New Zealand women's cricket team defeated the South Africa women's cricket team by 32 runs in the final match of the Women's T20 World Cup 2024 played at the Dubai International Stadium on Sunday.
In this final match, New Zealand batted first and scored 158/5 in 20 overs with the help of Suzie Bates (32), Amelia Kerr (43) and Brooke Halliday (38). Chasing the target, South African batsmen could only reach a score of 126/9 in full overs and lost the match by 32 runs.
New Zealand has won this title for the first time. South Africa's dream of winning the title was shattered again. Amelia Kerr played an important role in New Zealand's victory. Kerr scored 43 runs with the bat and then also took 3 wickets.
The New Zealand team reached the Women's T20 World Cup final for the third time. The South African team was playing its second consecutive final, but this time too it faced disappointment. Last year, South Africa had to face defeat at the hands of Australia in the final.
Chasing the target in the final match, South Africa had a good start. Captain Wolvaard and Tajmin Brits together added 51 runs in 6.5 overs for the first wicket. However, as soon as the opening partnership broke, the South African team came under pressure and lost wickets at regular intervals. Captain Wolvaard played the highest innings of 33 runs for the South African team. Brits contributed 17 and Chloe Tryon contributed 14 runs. Amelia Kerr and Rosemary Mair took three wickets each for New Zealand.
Earlier, after losing the toss and batting first, New Zealand scored 158 runs for 5 wickets. Georgia Amelia Kerr scored the highest 43 runs for New Zealand. Kerr faced 38 balls and hit four fours. Brooke Halliday scored 38 runs in 28 balls with the help of three fours. There was a partnership of 57 runs in 44 balls for the fourth wicket between Halliday and Kerr. Opener batsman Suzie Bates also played a useful innings of 32 runs. N Mlaba took two wickets for South Africa.
