India defeated England by an innings and 64 runs in the Dharamsala Test to win the 5-match series 4-1. Team India won the fourth consecutive match of the series.
India vs England 5th Test: India won the Dharamsala Test by an innings and 64 runs and won the 5-match series 4-1. England had definitely made a strong start to the series by winning the first Test in Hyderabad, but after this, Team India did not let the guests make a move and won all the next 4 matches. In the 5th and last Test played in Dharamsala, England batted first and scored 218 runs on the board.
During this, Kuldeep Yadav was successful in taking 5 wickets and R Ashwin was successful in taking 4 wickets. India's first innings was limited to 477 runs. Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill played an important role in taking Team India to this score. Both the players scored brilliant centuries. Apart from these, Sarfaraz Khan and Devdutt Padikkal played half-century innings. Shoaib Bashir opened the batting for England, while James Anderson completed 700 wickets in Tests. Team India had achieved a lead of 259 runs after the first innings.
England's second innings was limited to 195 runs and India thus won by an innings margin. Joe Root was England's top scorer with 84 runs, while R Ashwin opened the scoring. This was Ashwin's 36th 5 wicket haul, making him the bowler for India to take the most number of 5 wicket hauls in an innings.

Effect on WTC Points Table: As India hammered England by an innings and 64 runs inside three days in the fifth and final Test in Dharamsala, Rohit Sharma and co. further consolidated their position at the top of the World Test Championship table on Saturday.
The two-time finalists last week grabbed the top spot in the WTC charts after New Zealand slipped to second place following their loss to Australia in Wellington.
The massive win in Dharamsala helped India secure 12 crucial points and lifted their point percentage from 64.58 to 68.51.
The Kiwis have a point percentage of 60, while Australia are placed third on the table with 59.09 point percentage.
Suffering their heaviest defeat of the Bazball era and a fourth in a row against India, England are at the eighth place in the standings. The defeat in the fifth Test also meant their point percentage slipped down to 17.5 from 19.44.
For his fifer in the first innings, Kuldeep was adjudged Player of the Match.
For scoring 712 runs in the series, young opener Yashasvi Jaiswal was awarded with the Player of the Series award.
