Gautam Gambhir appointed as Head Coach Team India (Senior Men)
Gautam Gambhir becomes the new head coach of Team India, BCCI Secretary Jai Shah announced.

Rahul Dravid's future was decided after the last ODI World Cup. The BCCI was on the lookout for a new coach ever since his decision to step down after the T20 World Cup came to light. Where Gautam Gambhir was the foremost. As a mentor in the IPL, the board had their eyes on him after achieving success for the Lucknow and Kolkata franchises.
Rumors were rife about Gambhir becoming the head coach since the last IPL. However, seeing that the two sides were not connecting properly with bat and ball, the final decision was not reached until now. Due to which the Indian cricket team has to go on a tour of Zimbabwe with an interim coach.
On Tuesday, however, all the wait came to an end. BCCI Secretary Jai Shah confirmed the finalization of Gambhir as coach. On X (formerly Twitter) he wrote, 'It is with great pleasure that I welcome Gautam Gambhir as the head coach of the Indian cricket team. Modern cricket is expanding rapidly. Witnessing that change up close is sobering. I am confident that Gautam is the ideal person to take Indian cricket forward.
Meanwhile, after representing India as a cricketer from 2003 to 2016, Gambhir is also excited to take on a new role. He wrote on social media, 'I am honored to be back (in the national team), albeit in a different role. But my aim is always the same, to make every Indian proud.”
India will play a 3-match ODI and T20I series against Sri Lanka at the end of this month. Gambhir, who won T20 World Cup in 2007 and ODI World Cup in 2011 for India, will start his journey as the head coach of the national team from the away series.
Gambhir will be the coach of Team India in all three formats. Jay Shah had already said that separate coaches would not be appointed. Gambhir's tenure will be 3.5 years. BCCI had invited applications in May. After this, test of two people was taken. Apart from Gambhir, the name of former Indian women's team coach WV Raman was included in these. However, now Jay Shah has announced Gambhir's name.
