Big Blow for England as Captain Injured Ahead of Crucial Test Series Against Sri Lanka
England captain Ben Stokes is in doubt for his side's three-match Test series against Sri Lanka after he suffered a suspected hamstring injury while playing in The Hundred.
England Captain Ben Stokes Injured: England's Test team captain Ben Stokes got injured while playing in the domestic cricket competition Hundred, which has raised a question mark over his participation in the upcoming Test series against Sri Lanka.
While playing against Manchester Originals for Northern Super Charges, 33-year-old Stokes strained the muscles of his left leg while trying to steal a run and had to leave the field. He retired hurt after scoring two runs.
The severity of his injury is not yet known and he will face the challenge of getting fully fit soon. He had to take support from the shoulders of the medical staff to get out of the field. During this time, he was continuously holding the hamstring of his left leg with his hand and was limping.
Under the leadership of Stokes, England defeated West Indies 3-0 in the three-Test series last month. Its first match against Sri Lanka will be played at Old Trafford from 21st August. The third and final match of this series will be played at the Oval from September 6.
The England skipper is set to have scans on the affected area on Monday to confirm the extent of the injury, but the 33-year-old all-rounder is considered doubtful for the opening Test against Sri Lanka that commences in Manchester on 21 August according to teammate Harry Brook.
"It doesn't look great unfortunately but I think he'll be getting a scan tomorrow and see how he is," Brook told Sky Sports.
According to media reports, Stokes got scanned on Monday. It is being told that Stokes may be out of the first match of the three-match Test series to be played against Sri Lanka. But there has been no official confirmation of this yet. Now it remains to be seen whether Stokes is able to take part in the Test series against Sri Lanka or not.
